DALAL SAAD

DIETITIAN

Dalal began her career as a clinical dietitian working in a busy hospital and eventually shifted into a community based role where she mainly worked with at risk children. Dalal soon realised that the success of a child’s health goals lies with empowering their parents and trying to remove any obstacles to accessing health care.

The potential barrier of a second language is particularly isolating for some parents and Dalal found that having Arabic as a second language was especially rewarding for these patients and set her on the course of pursuing a more formal education in the Arabic language.

Dalal is also a busy mother of three children and can understand the added complexity of trying to manage all of our responsibilities whilst also finding the time to achieve our own health and fitness goals. Helping clients identify their own barriers and finding practical solutions to achieving our long term health goals is both very challenging and satisfying, as it is a problem we all face.

If you would like any help with nutrition or other food related questions, please ask us to get in touch with one of our dietitian.

9 TIPS FOR EATING HEALTHY THIS WINTER

1. Drink more water and skip the soda, sweetened tea and alcohol when possible.
2. Avoid processed and packaged foods and increase your intake of fresh, whole foods.
3. Eat your greens! Green vegetables are the most nutrient dense foods on the planet. Eat them often and as much as you’d like.
4. Cook at home more. You’ll likely make better food choices, eat less and save money. It’s a win-win.
5. Watch your portion sizes. This is especially important when eating healthy foods because we often like to think that if something is healthy we can eat as much as we want.
6. Avoid the health food halo effect. Gluten-free crackers and chips are still processed carbs, vegan cookies are still cookies, and coconut sugar, raw cane sugar and other natural sweeteners are still sugar.
7. Remember that you are unique. There’s no plan or way of eating that works for everyone. You have to find what foods work for you body by trial and error.
8. Be mindful. In today’s society we’re all about multi-tasking, so almost everyone eats while doing other things — driving, walking, talking, watching tv, looking at their phone, on the computer, etc. This is not a good thing!
9. Treat yourself. We always say, eating healthy has to be a lifestyle… one that involves moderation and balance!
